ProStores Review: Ease of Use (2.5 stars)
Hard to Find Your Way Around, but Design and E-Commerce are Easy
ProStores has an interface that makes it hard to learn and the Wizards don't make things easier. That being said, its simplistic design capabilities are easy to use. And even though it takes a lot of time to set up the e-commerce area's many options, it's easy to follow.
Very Confusing at the Beginning
When you first login to ProStores, there's a "Getting Started" page with a friendly-looking checklist of setup tasks. However, links on this page usually take you to other parts of the builder that look completely different. You're left wondering how all the pages relate and where to find them. After you learn the builder, you'll figure out that there's actually a homepage that links to all the other parts of the builder. Once you understand the three-tier menu structure of ProStores, it's a little easier to get around the site.
"Getting Started" Page Has No Left Menu Sidebar
Too Many Pop-Up Windows
ProStores relies on pop-up windows to show information. This quickly gets annoying because you'll have 4 or 5 browser windows open on your desktop at the same time. It's the same when previewing your online store after editing.
Too Many Wizards that Don't Speed Things Up
There are lots of wizards to help you through the setup process. The wizards are supposed to be simpler versions of the regular instructions presented in a sequence of 4-5 pages. While at first they seem to be helpful, they aren't really necessary and they split up each setup process into more steps when you can do it all from a single page.
Easy to Design and Edit Average Pages
The design wizard and editors are easy to use. There are step-by-step instructions as you go through the design process, making setup simple. However, unless you know advanced coding, page designs are generic looking.
Generic Out-dated Designs
E-Commerce Features Easy to Setup but Time-Consuming
The process to setup e-Commerce features can be painstakingly long (30+ settings!). That being said, the instructions are clear and it's easy to fill in the necessary information.
Support is Available But Not Easy to Find
There are many ways to get help, including phone, email, online documentation, a discussion board and a few downloadable user guides. Our main problem is that support is not accessible from store administration, where you spend most of your time. This is inconvenient because you'll have to go back to the Control Panel before you can get help.
