Recently, it seems that AI writing assistants are all the rage.
Many new softwares are coming out every other day that are designed to help you write blog posts, emails, and even entire books.
Among those, one that you can find in the top 5 of our Best AI Writing Software List: Rytr!
As the AI-curious copywriters that we are, we decided to give Rytr a try and see how it works by creating a.i content with Rytr.me (see below).
We were pleasantly surprised by the results and we decided to start this review in order to let you know exactly how it went! So let’s get started with our experience.
What is Rytr exactly?
Rytr is an AI writing assistant that claims to create blog posts (and more!) in minutes, with no effort required. Using the GPT-3 technology developed by OpenAI, Rytr founders created their software with the goal in mind to offer the best AI content generator.
So that’s what Rytr is: an AI-powered content generator that will write up your copy for you. There are 30+ templates you can choose from to generate copy: blog ideas and outline, AIDA or PAS frameworks, social media ads, etc.
Launched in April 2021, Rytr is a web-based platform only –for now. It’s responsive so that you can access it on both desktop and mobile.
How does Rytr work?
After you register through the standard name/email/company procedure, you get access to the basic version of the software.
Rytr offers a forever-free plan that lets you generate 5000 characters every month. That’s not much, but still enough for us to give you a taste of what it can do.
Below you can see the interface you end up on after registering.
What can Rytr do?
The first thing to know when using the AI writing assistant is that you don’t have a lot of control over the writing process: all you can do is select from one template and wait for Rytr to generate your content.
The list of templates you can choose from on Rytr is:
- Blog Idea & Outline
- Blog Section Writing (intros and paragraphs)
- Business Idea Pitch
- AIDA framework
- PAS framework
- Social media ads
- Interview questions
- Job description
- Landing page & website copies
- Magic command (for any kind of request to the AI)
- Post & caption ideas
- Product description
- Bullet points for product description
- Profile bio
- Question & answer
- Replies to reviews & messages
- SEO meta description
- SEO meta title
- Song lyrics
- Story plot
- Tagline & headline
- Testimonial & review
- Video channel description
- Video description
- Video idea
Note that you can also use it in 30+ different languages.
So here’s how it works with an example: if we wanted to use our favourite framework, AIDA, we would first have to select it from the drop-down menu on the left.
We’d just add a description for Rytr to work with (its own self-description, found on the official website) and choose a tone of voice. There’s a drop-down menu for that as well that lets you select your desired tone of voice from 20+ choices.
The output will then appear on the right, directly into the section dedicated to your writing. If you select more than one output, they’ll simply appear one after the other.
In the example above, you can see that outputs 2 & 3 are actually exactly the same, which is too bad because it’s just using up our free characters available for the trial.
However content-wise, Rytr’s writing is actually not bad at all. The structure of the sentences makes sense, it’s easy to understand, and we get the AIDA framework we asked for.
We tried another template, the email generator:
Again, you’ve got nice content in just a few seconds and all it took was one click! The first output does look quite similar to our input, but the second one is definitely usable just as it is.
Just like with any AI writing tool, Rytr works best with a die-and-retry strategy. You’ll most probably need to generate several outputs for each run and pick and mix among the content generations.
And as a bonus, just because we couldn’t not try the song lyrics generator, here’s what Rytr comes up with when you ask it for a song about kittens:
If you ask us, we think the AI pretty much nailed it.
How much does Rytr cost?
As mentioned earlier, Rytr offers a forever-free plan that allows you to generate up to 5000 characters each month (between 700-1200 words on average).
That’s not much, but if you need Rytr to get unstuck when facing writer’s block, it can still prove useful.
If you want to go pro, Rytr’s premium plan offers unlimited runs and unlimited characters generation. The plan starts at $29 a month, and if you pay annually, you get 2 months for free.
Rytr Pros & Cons
We’ve given you an overview of how Rytr works and what it can do for your content generation needs. Let’s now take a look at its pros and cons:
– Really easy to use with no learning curve required
– Works well in generating blog ideas, social media posts etc.
– 20+ tones of voice available
– Free Chrome extension to work on your browser
– The writing is really good overall
– Affordable software
– Limited free plan that barely lets you test the software out properly
– Limited to 30+ templates; no in-text content generation
– No SEO features (except for meta descriptions and meta titles templates)
Final thoughts: is Rytr worth it?
To conclude this review about Rytr, we think that it’s a cool AI-powered content generator for beginners and anyone looking for quick content generation.
For writers, it’s a great way to get unstuck when facing writer’s block or if you need content for your blog quickly.
If you’re looking into building an online business where copy is key, Rytr can also be useful as different templates are great for all sorts of niches and contexts.
Rytr also comes with a free Google extension that allows you to rephrase, improve or generate content anytime, whenever you need to write something online.
However, the forever-free version is quite limited, so if you want to make the best of Rytr you’ll definitely have to upgrade.
Overall, we think that Rytr has great potential and might become one of the best AI assistants sometime. It’s easy to use, it’s accurate and it’s affordable; it only still lacks a few functionalities us heavy bloggers might need.
